Over 135 years old and still going and looking strong, is this Enfield .577 Long Lever Martini.
The rifling of the bore is very well defined and this rifle still shoots very well on Triple FFF. There are two barrel bands and sling swivels present along with the rod. There is a fixed ramped blade foresight and the original fold up rear sight, graduated out to 1200 yds.
This is the long lever version, introduced to assist troops eject spent cases. The action is good and the cocked indicator is present and working.
The butt stock has many inscriptions that are mostly faded away. The stock is richly coloured and is not cracked and shows no signs of repair. The mid-stock is complete and in good condition, no repairs or splits are visible. The fore-stock has a 3" x 3/8ths long piece missing, just behind the front barrel band that is barely visible when the rifle is turned over.
There are many War Department marks and proof marks on the rifle, action and stock. The modern proof mark is near the muzzle - .577/450 , 85grns BP, 480 grn bullet.
